Guardians of the Galaxy is a 2014 American Action/Adventure and Sci-Fi film based on Superheroes made by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures and is the tenth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The budget for Guardians of the Galaxy 

was a huge budget of $170 Million.

The film was produced by Kevin Feige and directed by James Gunn who also wrote the screenplay with Nicole Perlman.

The stars in the film are Zoe Saldana who played as Gamora, Chris Pratt as Quill (aka Star-Lord), Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Dave Bautista as Drax and Vin Diesel as Groot.

PRODUCTION

Pre-production:

James Gunn announced on his facebook page that he signed on to direct and re-write the script for Guardians of the Galaxy in September 2012. The filming was scheduled in January 2013 at Shepperton Studios in London and the filming took place in June. David Bautista got his role as Drax the Destroyer in Mid-March and Zoe Saldana got her role as Gamora in April. By June, everyone got their role and special effects makeup designer David White experimented with materials and makeup to create creature designs. In the end White and his team created 1,000 prosthetic makeup applications and 2,000 molds of different coloured aliens.

Production:

The filming began around July 6, 2013 in Shepperton Studios and later in July, James Gunn and the film's cast flew to San Diego to attend a Comic-Con International where they revealed which actors got certain roles in the film. Gunn finally announced on social media that the filming was complete on October 12, 2013.

Post-production:
Moving Picture Company(MPC) created 2,750 visual effects shots for the film and worked on creating Groot, Morag and Xandar. Framestore worked on creating Rocket, Luma Pictures worked on Thanos, Method Studios worked on creating the Orb opening and revealing it's powers, they also worked on the holographic displays at the Nova Corps command center. Motion Picture Company is one of the global leaders in VFX renowned for adding visual wonder and creative experise to films, adverts and entertainment industries. MPC completed 857 shots for the film, Led by MPC VFX Supervisor Nicolas Aithadi and Producer Marianne Speight. The film utillized MPC's full arsenal of top-end talent, in-house software, VFX tools and techniques.

DISTRIBUTION

The world premiere of Gaurdians of the Galaxy was held on July 21, 2014 at Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. The film was released in United Kindom on July 31, 2014 and in the United States on August 1, in 3D and IMAX 3D. The film was released in 4,080 theatres in US which makes it the widest August release.  Production is set to begin for a 2015 release on Disney XD. The age range for the film is 12+ .

MARKETING

For marketing, Marvel field trademark applications for the film, covering a wide range of consumer products from video games to cosmetics. Mad Engine and C-Life were partnered to create a line of t-shirts and fleece jackets, New Era made headwear and hats and Hasbro produced toys. Disguise and Rubies made costumes and Lego even made three sets of toys based on the film. IHome made speakers, Funko made vinyl bobble heads, Freeze made backpacks and finally stationary was made by Fast Forward and Innovative Designs. The synergy between all the companies is that they kept the same font of the film and used similar colours from the characters to create the costumes and bobble heads. The film has a cross media convergence to be able to download digitally.

The first trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy was shown on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" with a special introduction with Chris Patt on February 18, 2014. American Broadcast Company(ABC) aired a one-hour television special based on Guardians of the Galaxy called"Marvel Studio: Assembling a Universe" in March 2014. In July 2014, Marvel launched a viral marketing campaign for the film called "Galaxy Getaways", a website to book passage to some of the planets.

EXHIBITION

The film was released by Walts Disney Studio Home Entertainment for digital download on November 18, 2014, and on DVD, Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D on December 9, 2014. The official release was November 24, 2014 in the United Kingdom. Digital download and Blu-ray releases have behind-the-scene footage, deleted scenes and bloopers.  Guardians of the Galaxy was released in over 70 countries like USA, UK, Canada, Switzerland, Japan and many others.

BOX OFFICE

The film became the fourteenth movie of 2014 in just 10 days and made over $300 million and by October 16, 2014, the film made over $700 million becoming the third Walt Disney Studios release of 2014. It also came fourth in Marvels Studios film, it was the third most earning Marvel Studios film, just behind The Advengers and Iron Man 3.

n October 20, 2014, North America, Guardians of the Galaxy earned $327.9 million and earned $404.8 million in other countries to earn a worldwide total of $732.7 million.
